I always thought Roy Orbison was blind. Apparently not - he just had poor eyesight.

In the early days, before a concert, he had left his regular glasses on a plane, so wore his sunglasses - and there you have it - an image & a legend was born.

My Mum told me he wore them so nobody could see him crying when he sang. apparently he lived a very sad life and most of his songs had meaning for him.

Salla - I have heard the question of why the Big O wore sunglasses crop up in quizzes many time over the years, with various answers. Another reason I have heard given is that he was cross-eyed.

He had more than his fair share of tragedy. His first wife died in a motorbike accident & two of his three sons died in a house fire. Awful.

I remember Peters and lee. When they split up Peters went solo and Lee went into a lamp post.

It was a musical legendary myth in my mind - what do I know no-know?!

Tossport Peters!! Or was it Tosspot Lee?? Who cares, they were both cr@p. And responsible for my mother non-stop crying every time 'welcome home' came on the radio; because it reminded her of her dad who'd just died when that song came out.

At least The Big O could sing - and how.

Looks like he has lost his eye or has detached retina?

Whenever Roy Orbison is mentioned, It reminds me of the bloke in Only Fools And Horses

A Cwyyyying..... over you!
Elvis Presley said the The Big O was the greatest singer ever and I wouldn't disagree with him.

I never heard of a myth that RO was blind - I have never heard that story, but still ...

He did have a tragic life, which was translated so well into his vocal style - something today's wannabe's would do well to listen to, and learn.

Diverging a little - I undestand that Lennie Peters was a bit of a 'geezer' in his day, and knew some pretty heavy company - The Krays etc.

Just a myth in my mind, obviously.
But at least we all agree on he was a great singer. ;-)
Roy Orbison and Lenny Peters had an argument over a woman and decided to have an eye poking competition and poked one and another in the eye...obviously The Big O won as he didn`t cut his fingernails whereas Peters did

Fact!
Curveylady ...fantastic LOL LOL LOL
