Usually around Christmas I give some money to 2 of my favourite charities. But my friend told me last year that nearly all charities are funded by the government.
On an another note what do you think of free prescriptions from next year - my other friend thinks the NHS is on its knees and thinks people will abuse the system asking for more prescriptions than needed.

Plenty of info here on the 12 major charities and public funds.

You could always choose a charity that doesn't receive public funding.
As for your second q, who will abuse the system? and why? what gain do they get? surely docs write out scripts that are needed?
I imagine that the 2/3 mnth limit on scripts will still be in force? my NHS scripts are repeated every 3 mnths (used to be 6) so if I asked for 6mnths worth on one script I probs wouldn't get them???.....
