Greetings each.
Does anyone happen to know what might have gone wrong here, please?
I recently tried to open the case, after removing all the screws, but couldn't separate the top from the bottom.
I can't get the ruddy thing to work at all now!
I was looking for the HDD controller as there is/was an intermittent problem with HDD functionality.
Cheers.

the catch is ... there is a catch(es) ...every case (generally) has locking catches built into the case.
unless you know where they are ... you never know where they'll be (also check for extra screws hidden under covers (under ram, behind HDD etc).
there is no such thing as a hdd controller (not as a thingybob anyhow) - it's just part of the mobo
more likely is the ribbon or caddy connectors (or even the hdd)

Also, be aware that in some laptops, not all the screws are the same length, and it is possible to screw straight through the motherboard, I know this as I have done it.
As for opening the case, you need to slide something flat between the two halves of the case and gently twist, but don't use a screwdriver,as it will just gouge the case.
