Hypothetical question----

If you are alive on the qualifying date in Sept ,for the fuel allowance, and then you die say in November before it is paid out, do you still get it credited to your estate?
I do realise that you don't need it just wondered.

Of course not. It's there to help keep the person warm in the coming winter months. The September date is purely a qualifying date, and as all pension recipients deaths have to be notified to the Department of Works and Pensions, then all government pension related benefits would cease upon notification.

'course u cant have it if your dead. You could request in your Will that cremation charges are sent to Pensions in lieu of fuel allowance. I have sent them my heating charges and hoping for reimbursements :) Am considering suing of racist grounds if they don't pay as am 'thin-blooded' from spending so long abroad.

my grampy died on November 4th and my mother in law died mid November. (different years and several years ago) We informed the pensions people and we were still sent the heating allowance as they were alive during the qualifying period. this money went into their respective estates.
things might have changed by now but it is worth checking.

Was only wondering, what a bummer for so many old people if they are unfortunate to die at the wrong time.
But seriously dying at anytime is not the best thing to happen to anyone.
