I have posted these two links because I believe that both are proof of discipline flying out of the window these days.

Case 1, Regarding the ring, if the school rules are no jewelry to be worn due to safety, then this is the rule full stop regardless of religion or anything else for that matter

Case 2, Regarding making pupils do press-ups if they are late for lessons etc.. In this liberal age of 'no corporal punishment' surely a few press-ups can do no harm, especially if it instrumental in helping to restore some discipline into our young.

Issue One - the 'purity' ring is not a religious symbol, and comparing it to a hijab is patently ludicrous. To suggest that it is a 'Christian' symbol is to allow a child to confuse a moral stance with a religious emblem, and her mother should be back the school's health and safety policy, which is for the protection of all pupils, explain to her daugher the difference between a pop-influenced fad and a fundamental expression of religious faith, and stop making a fuss about very little.

Issue Two - the point is not whether the sanction is unduly harsh - a matter of opinion, but the fact that the issue should have been dealt with internally, which is a matter of common sense. In these PC times, it's always best to leave beaurocracy out of the argument until the last possible minute - and then leave it out anyway!

Health and safety is one of the lamest excuses going, you could ban things like skipping and hop-scotch with that one.
The ring is'nt a declaration of faith, but any pop induced fad that encourages girls to refuse to be treated as sex objects should be encouraged. What is the school's stance on red nose day?
Teachers want our support then they should say what it is they want in terms of school rules one size should fit all but to be honest I've given up now I don't know how this country's going to turn out, all week and all last week all I've had to put up with in work is d1ck head after d1ck head after d1ck head.

We all have to adhere to rules of one form or other in our daily lives, some we like others we do not.

But one thing is certain we would have complete chaos if we chose to only obey those that we agreed with personally.
