Because, for some unfathomable reason the whole country grinds to a halt when we get a foot of snow on the ground.

An example being, last night we has said foot of snow, and when I trudged to nursery to drop off my little one there before heading to work I was told they were closing as she was the only child that had turned up!!! I had to return home with her and phone up my very pi$$ed off boss and tell him that I couldn't come in as I had no babysitter.

We all knew the snow was coming but everyone seem gobsmacked when it actually arrived.

Thank God we don't live in say Sweden for example, we'd be goosed.
foot of snow? if we have a millimetre down here we are jumping for joy(i live in dorset)
Can I ask that you keep it?
Hate the stuff
Does Russia grind to halt in the snow? No
Does Sweden, and the other Nordic coutires? No
Does GB grind to a halt uner 2 mm of the stuff? Oh yes, because no one heeds the warnings - the council dont grit and people look out of their windows and skive off work 'in case' they get snowed in! WTF???
Anyway, rant of the day over for me, I'm off to work in a non snowy part of the UK ...........
Erm maybe because snow in december is quite big news at the moment seen as we got in in april this year and its becoming more and more frequent in the spring months than the winter
Actually ojread, it's only when there's snow in England there seems to be a hoo ha. ;o)
My friend's mum has lived over in Canada for years now. Everytime she comes back to visit here, and there has been snow, she cannot believe how this country almost grinds to a halt over a slurry of snow. Over there they put tracks on their tyres and carry on as normal. Here everywhere closes down because there's a small covering for a couple of days.

We love it though, don't we. Any excuse to have a day off work or school !!
because we dont have tracks salla
Aaah - good point!

I'm used to living on a farm where the smallest vehicle was a land rover - & it has been known to me to get to work on a tractor.

Oh, those were the days.... not.
