If I bought supermarket oysters on Christmas Eve, and kept them in the fridge', would they be OK by Boxing Day?

Oysters are best stored in a very cool place, the fridge is too cold in my opinion. All depends when they were taken from the beds as to how long you can keep them for. They usually keep four/five days after the date you buy them. If you're at a port where they've been taken out that day they can last a week. Always smell them on opening.
By the way, this information is for UNopened oysters, opened ones have to be eaten same day.
They should be ok if they aren't open. But don't eat then if they smell. I have eaten sell by date oysters before it resulted me having diarrhoea - not pleasant.

Thank you, both! I'll get some and take your advice. I suppose if they don't smell of the sea they are not worth having!
If they're open - chuck em.

Keep outside 3 days max. spray with water to keep moist.
Can't you leave them in a bucket
of cold water ..i do that when I
buy fresh mussels ..and leave the
bucket in a cool place ....
