Last night when I was in my local sainsburys I noticed that Guitar hero world tour band pack (wii) had the price inside the plastic sleeve for �34.99 and not just placed on the outside, of which would obviously was a mistake made by staff and was on the guitar range. My question is , isn't the customers right that the price on the sleeve should be the price I pay for the item or for the price that it should be around �150. I was too emarassed to check at the till, but after speaking to my sister in law she said I had just had to ask for the manager, if the till person said no. I thought I'd ask you guys and find out if anyone had any similar experiences?

I always thought if it had that price on it then they had to let you have it for that.

I wouldn't have thought so. Surely if someone accidentally prices it as 1p, you wouldn't expect to get it for that?

I agree with both of you, although I always thought you paid the price that was displayed/placed on it. I just feel too emabarassed to argue the toss in the shop lol, but as its xmas its so tempting to try. A few weeks ago I did buy the pack with just the guitar for my son, but want to get him the drums so much now!

If this were the case, then every Tom, Dick and Harry would be trying to swap price tags without the shop workers knowledge.

No- they'll notice the pricing error and either ask you to pay the difference or refuse you the sale, of which they're perfectly legally entitled to do i'm afraid.

Unless you get a particular dim looking salesperson and try your luck.

take it to til and if it rings up at �35 then count yourself lucky. it it rings up higher then say you thought it was �35 as it says. just play dumb, but they can refuse to sell it.

check the barcode on box match that on ticket.

They don't have to sell at any price. The price on the item is only a guide for an "offer to buy". If they make a pricing error, and let you have the item at the lower price it's only a gesture of goodwill. They don't have any legal obligation to do so.
It doesn't hurt to ask though, they might not know the rules.

As ~ max ~ said if it's a genuine pricing mistake the shop does not have to sell it, they can simply remove it from sale! What is illegal though is overpricing...if the shop sticks a more expensive price label over a cheaper one!!

The tills would tell you the real price so you can't get away with that these days.
But years ago I managed to get �80 off a telly because the shop assistant put the wrong price on the tag.
