How do I get rid of a small lawn?

I have a small lawn about 15sq ft.  I don't want it!!  Whats the best way to get rid of it.  I started trying to dig the thing up and got very tired doing this.  It weighs a tonne and I have to bag it up and carry it through the flat.  I've given up now doing it this way.  I plan to replace the lawn area with stones (along the same lines as gravel but bigger).  I was thinking of leveling out with sand as mush as poss then covering with newspapers and that bark stuff then covering that with weedblock.  Finally lay the stones on top of that.  Will the above do the job or can anyone suggest anything else

if you have a raised lawn, level off the area around it using sand or weeds. Apply weedkiller if you wish then cover the area with weedblock or anything porous that will block all sunlight. The lawn will die in a matter of days then you can simply cover the weedblock with a layer of sand, one inch deep should suffice, and lay your stones on top. Brush some coarse sand over the stones at the end to fill in the gaps.

You can just cover the whole area with weedblock weed control fabric (available in rolls from all DIY shops) and lay your gravel over the top as normal.  The lawn will just die off.
