Deposit Protection Scheme
If a tenancy is in joint names, and there is only 1 tenant who is barefaced enough to claim 3 times the deposit as due to ignorance the deposit wasn't protected, is it 50% that can be awarded, or is the claim valid at all?
Also, what timescale is needed to make the claim - can the claim be made after the deposit was paid back.
Also, if the tenant accepted the return of the deposit, could this be said to be full and final settlement or should they have returned it to make a claim.
Any help will be appreciated with this. Many thanks.

The 3x the deposit figure is the set penalty so is not a figure picked out of thin air. I also do not think it is relevant that the tenant has the deposit back, but I am not sure about the joint tenancy and one claiming or about timescales
Have a look at the DirectGov website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TenancyDeposit/DG_ 066380 as that has good info on it
or Landlord Zone is quite good.
