Using disabled badge

Hi, I am trying to find out if the 30 minute and 1 hour parking restrictions apply to disabled drivers where they have sign at side of road. If I park on the double yellow lines I can park for 3 hours, yet nowhere in the booklet can I find out about parking at these other signs. I have asked local council but they say they only enforce the rules not make them. Thanks for any help.

I have a Blue Badge and have not encountered any time limit problems , though I have not yet needed the full 3 hours anywhere theshedman . I would check the signs fully to cover the driver ,and do ask around at your council offices again . :-) x

Sigma, you say:

the blue badge applies to the person not the vehicle, so a disabled person using a taxi, the taxi, mini cab can display a blue badge.

However, the mincab was parked up, empty. There is no way the driver can claim to have a disabled passenger, is there?

Even if they theoretically can, do you believe it? I don't.

I worked in the parking office of a local council and a first ticket issued to a blue badge holder arising from misinterpretation of parking rules or incorrect display of the badge was written off. A clear mention was made in their letter that it was a one off and the badge user would not be able to successfully appeal again.

It may be, as disabled parking can be a bit confusing, that many authorities cancel a first ticket, but don't bank on it.

Taxi drivers are just as likely to be disabled as anyone else,they would be entitled to a blue badge if they fit the criteria for applying for one.
Just because the driver was not in his vehicle does not mean he didn't have a disabled passenger,he could have been helping the disabled person to their home or to carry their shopping from shop to car.

What's to get real about?.One of our local taxi drivers is disabled and has a disabled badge,he doesn't use it when he is working though admittedly,only when using his taxi as his personal vehicle.

WE DONT HAVE TO BE IN A WHEELCHAIR TOO BE DISABLED
we get bad disabled drivers as well bad able bodyed
drivers
there are no excuses for either
there is continuity between councils
some do one thing and some do the other
half hour waiting means just that in chesterfield, skegness
l would like some who makes up these rules to try and park get your chair out go 50yds buy somthing go back to the car
put your chair in the car in half an hour
does anybody else find that its always the able body people
whats best for us?......

you know all those people that moan about dissabled
getting free this and that, l think we would be willing to give it all up if we could get rid of our dissabiltys

i myself an paralysed from the chest down,cannot walk,cannot write my own name,cannot really work to any great value and as you would guess cannot do many other everyday,taken for granted things,i live on benefits so i guess not having to pay for road tax or parking is one of my "luxuries" not that my carers and i go out allday everyday-more like once a week,however i'm sorry if i have caused irritation to anyone who felt at some stage that they felt a little "robbed" of a valuable parking space a few feet nearer to a shop door or somewhere similar
also even if i am not present,my carer for example can use my badge on my behalf in the same way as me if they are picking up prescriptions from my chemist/Doctors
i hope this answers a few questions.ps it's taken 30 mins to type this!

hi, unfortunately, just to confuse the blue badge users, all places differ. take scotland, they do not have to use a time closck at all. usually double and single yellor lines are 3 hours in most places, but NO KERB MARKINGS! a disabled persons should never have to pay for on street parking but may have to pay in car parks, this is upto the council whether they charge a fee or not and should say so by signage. where i live, denbighshire, north wales, a blue badge holder may park for as long as they need, in any limited waiting bay where a specific time is stated but from the knowledge i have i understand this will differ from place to place.
