My connections are as follows:

Freeview to TV - Scart
Freeview to DVD Recorder- Scart
DVD Recorder to TV - Scart

When the DVD Rec is powered up the image ghosts and the recordings are affected.

I can't think why this is happening. Any Ideas?

Has the DVD recorder got an RF out (i.e. an output to an aerial socket)?

If so, and you are not using it, you may be able to disable the RF output in the setup menu, or change the frequency something that doesn't cause interference. Failing that, you could just try sticking a shorted plug in the socket.
I had this problem when using cheap Scart cables.

I think when you have a lot of cables lying all near each other they pick up "noise" from each other.

I went to Argos and bought some decent Scart cables (only about 15 each) and the problem went away.
