"During the Cuban Missile Crisis the CIA were aware of a group of Havana based local 'fixers' for the Soviets. They had no official links with the Cuban leadership but the US believed they were indirectly funded by the Castro regime. The group was led by two communist sympathisers, Carlos Mauel Martinez and Fabio Estrada Gonzalez. With five other known local 'gangsters' in tow the group were referred to by the CIA as The Havana Seven. Castro has never officially acknowledged their existence or his links to them but senior ex-Soviet defectors have. "
