SSPay entitlement
6 Answers
Hello, I am just enquiring as to whether I am entitled to any financial help. 2 weeks ago I had a bad accident have broken my ankle, had an operation and have been told it will be 3 months until I will able to use it and have been signed off work. I have 9 weeks full pay but then after that I will have to live on SSP which is 75.00 a week which just covers my rent for the month. So food, bills etc wont get a look in. My partner earns less than I do and it is impossible to be able to survive on this amount whilst I am off sick. Am I entitled to any other financial support whilst I am unable to work?

I work retail in a 3 floor shop with no lift Mcfluff - I want to go back after the six weeks as I am bored stiff but getting to the toilet etc.. is virtually impossible - if I heal quick I should be ok but I am trying to get as much info asap that way I am prepared if I cant go back.
Ankle fractures can be extremely difficult to heal properly, depending on how compounded it is. My son broke his badly in a motorbike accident. Pins and screws were inserted to keep the lot together. I don't want to alarm you but his ankle took 4 months to heal to the point where he could walk well enough to return to work [fitter-turner]. Proper rest is essential for proper healing. To expect someone to return to work after one week is a bit harsh.
If you want to do something before being on your feet all day you might be able to find some volunteer work where you can have a sit-down chore, check with Social Security first though. Don't be in a too much of a hurry to return to work where you need to be on your feet all day, ankle (and wrist) fractures can be vicious. Hope the financial side works out ok for you.
