well the caffeine in tea is called theine, so one answer is that there is NO caffeine in coffee. Seriously, it depends on what tea or coffee you are thinking of and how it was brewed
Tea contains more caffeine weight for weight, but you use less tea to make a cuppa than you do coffee. So a cup of coffee usually has more caffeine than a cup of tea.
according to the international coffee organisation (!) the average cup of brewed coffee has 85mg of caffeine in (percolated has less than dripped), the average cup of instant coffee has 71mg. The average cup of tea contains 60mg but this depends on strength: a strong cup of tea may have more caffeine than a weak cup of coffee.

I dont understand woofgangs answer!  why would this mean that theres no caffeine in coffee?

Typically there is 4 times more caffeine in an avg cup of coffee than an avg cup of tea

I had heard that there was a similar amount in tea, but that it was released more slowly, therefore not giving you the same 'buzz' as coffee.
beacuse the chemical in coffee is called CAFFeine. Its counterpart in tea is called THEine....okay, it was a bit of a weak answer....(shuffles off looking embarassed)
