I suppose it depends on ages.

If they are 3yrs old then probably none.
Nobody in the UK (this is a UK based website) will have a knowledge of the law in Illinois. You need to repost on a US based site.
I know people that do that. shes 13 and er brother is 11 or 12
there are people from US on this site that may be able to help
why would there be a law?
if you cant afford a larger house what can the authorities do about it? make you throw one of your children out?
The London Borough of Walthamstow Forest guidelines for council property state that two children of opposite sex are expected to share a bedroom up to the age of 8 years. When one of the children reaches 8 years, the family will then be rehoused into accommodation where the children can have separate bedrooms. Whether any guidelines apply to privately owned property is unclear.
My Mum fosters, and she has been told by our local authority social workers that the age limit is eight. Once one of them reaches that age, they need their own rooms.
I'd be very surprised if there is any law about this in the UK in respect of private housng
