Lactose Intolerant?
4 Answers
I have recently been diagnosed lactose intolerant after suffering from terrible heartburn and on medications, migraine's and a whole list of stuff and was told I had ME.
does anyone know of any good recipes and/or good substitutes for dairy. I have found a soya creembut have not tried it yet. I have soya yoghurts and have a soya margarine which tasted wuite nice which surprised me. i have also found in Morrison's a non-dairy ice cream called Swedish Glace. they only had vanilla but I know that there are more flavours in this range.
Has anyone found a non-dairy butter?

I have been a vegan for a while now and don't eat any dairy products or wheat. I use soya milk which is great, but unfortunately in Spain we can't get the soya marg or anything so I just manage without, as it is easier to just have a different diet rather than substitute. In UK you can get a lot of alternative stuff in Holland and Barrett and even in the larger supermarkets too. They do soya cheese and custard and spread too. If you look for vegan recipes on the web you should find quite a lot of good ones.
I've just tried a non-dairy product called Rice Dream. It is an alternative to milk and made out of rice. I have it with cereal, and it tastes really good. However if you add it to tea or coffee it goes funny! I also like Alpro Soya yoghurt alternative, tastes yummy! You can get both from Sainsbury's.
Hi Aurelia, you are in good hands here. I've been lactose intolerant for years and (with the help of my girlfriend) I have a much more varied diet than in the early years.
Have you tried Rice Milk? It's available in Sains and Tescos - the Vanilla one is best. Thisa is much better than and Soya milk on the market.
Now for the real breakthroughs we've discovered which not many people seem to know about: Did you know that you can have goats butter and cheese? This opens up all kinds of possibilities cooking-wise.
Also: buffalo milk is lactose-free! So, using buffalo mozarella you can once again enjoy pizzas either by doing them yourself (Sains do a very nice pizza-base mix) or by finding certain restaurants that have pizzas on the menu which use buffalo moz.
Good luck
