How do you cancel the count on word documents which tells you who created it how many words how many letters and what time it was last amended?I have found a section in properties but cannot seem to cancel it.Ryburn

I'm not sure what you mean by *cancel it*... all File/Properties/Statistics will give you is the number of pages, paragraphs, lines, words etc contained in that particular document. Try amending your document (just add a word for example) and then check again to see if File/Properties/Statistics has picked up the extra word you've just inserted. If you then open up a different Word document and check on the stats for that one, it should be different.

I mean cancel the statistics program as I keep wasting paper every letter I write as the statistics for the letter are printed each time which is a complete waste ,thanksfor your interest.ryburn

I've never heard of the stats being printed out along with the word document.... I am now wondering about your print settings...

OK,,,, I think I might have it ! If you open the document then click on File/Page Set Up/ then click on Print Options (near the bottom... the second section of that page has a check box which mentions *document properties* to be included with the print out.... if that is ticked, then click on it to untick.

This really is a puzzle,if I take a Word document,click on file I eventually get to a section Statistics which is what it prints,even when the document comes from someone else as an email attachment,I wonder if the fact that my system is now Vista and my old one was XP has caused it ,there does not seem to be any boxes to check or uncheck ,I tried clicking on the cancel box before posting my question but it made no difference.I am also having difficulty getting Vista to recognise my memory additional storage unit which houses all my old files,but that is another problem.You eventually start to wonder if you have no brain.ryburn

Hi ryburn... you really are pulling your hair out now, poor you !

I have Vista and when I open a Word document, then go to File/Print/Options, I see some check boxes for the following:-

Document Properties
Field Codes
Hidden Text
Drawing Objects

Do you not get these ? What version of Word have you got running ? To find out, go to Help/About Microsoft Word - mine is 2002, with Service Pack 3 (SP3).

Yes I am BUT by chance could have sorted it,I opened one of my Word docs under properties I only got General,Summary,Statistics Contents & Custom,so I went to help there instead of finding out what kind of Word I have,I stumbled across a section which said click Tools,then options and then print and lo and behold found a check next to Document Properties so unchecked it,so rated your reply the tops.Now to try find out why my USB storage of old files is not recognised,on XP it came up as Floppy C but on this it doesnt even show as new software found Thanks ryburn

tools | options | print | include with document

take the tick out of everything but drawing objects

LOL ryburn... what you are seeing when you go into File/Properties etc is just the detail about the file.... in order to change what gets printed out, you have to do this through File/Print/Options.

Regarding the storage of files and your USB.. you would be better off posting another question on here and hoping that ACTroll or Chuck are around... they are the real techies here lol.... I am baffled by the Floppy C you mention - Floppy drives have only ever been given the annotations of A and B (and that was a very long time ago). When you post your question, mention your Operating System (Vista) and try to include as much info as possible on the error messages you are getting when you insert your USB stick. I would not rely on a USB stick for data storage by the way, they are not that reliable... I'd only ever use one for data transfer, not long term storage.
