Beware of firearm

Is it legal to put a sign outside your house notifying the fact that the owner is in possession of a legal firearm as a deterrant to criminals. (if a 'beware of dog' sign is allowed why not this ?)

I'm sure I read some years ago that by putting up a "Beware Of The Dog" sign, you were in effect admitting to having a dangerous dog and anyone bitten could use the sign as evidence against the owner.

I doubt that putting up a sign telling folk you have a legal firearm would in itself be illegal but if the firearm were used in circumstances the Crown Prosecution Service were outwith the law, they'd prosecute.

What about Beware of the Fist?

Some people might see this sign as break in get my gun? You could attract some very nasty people with real guns, also you might invalidate your firearms certificate by advertising the fact you have a firearm on the premises ask the local police first , get a good burglar alarm.

Surely, notices reading 'THIS HOUSE IS ALARMED'  should be sufficient.

My husband used to keep our firearms locked away in a  hidden secured gun cabinet, but we would never have advertised it.

(We had firearm certificates & had regular checks from the local Police. When the laws changed, we put them in the charge of our gun club).
