usb flash drive not showing on pc

pc not showing memory stick anywhere. When plugged in the pc says new hardware found, when i try to load it after a few seconds it says error occurred. ive used 2 different memory sticks with the same result both work on a laptop perfectly they do not show in my computer or disk managment , any ideas please

If you`re using Windows, what version? I seem to recall that 98 hadn`t heard of memory sticks `cos they hadn`t been invented then! Have you checked that the USB port(s) are working with some other device? Have a lokk at Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware?Device Manager & see if anything is flagged up as dodgy.

It may be that they are in the process of "transferring" their drivers to the PC and only require a little more time before accessing

Im using xp pro have checked Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware?Device Manager but noyhing their usb port working with mp3 player and camera

A long shot, enter My Computer, right click on an optical drive & click properties then Autoplay. Check that it`s not disabled. If it is, choose the Open files for viewing (or similar) option. Good luck & merry Xmas.

Yes, I have one PC that takes minutes to flag up a stick. Sometimes I have to try another USB port.

Go to My computer - flash drive shows open it at Address bar above.

An optical drive is a CD or DVD or combo drive.

thanks again Brooksy I found dvd drive and it appears to be set to auto but cd's do not start automatic either but they do on second pc that opens memory sticks any idea's please.
