<gives B00 a Merry Christmas wave before she vanishes back to WOW>
haha Jno- hello, and a merry christmas to you too xxxx

Oooh, Happy Christmas jno and BOO. I am actually busy doing housework so might not make it on here before Christmas Day!! (Housework might finish me off!)

Have a good time both!!
Lottie is fighting a big battle with rats - the joys of living in the middle of a farm in a 200 hr year old house and drainage ditches all round us. Every year at this time at least one gets in and dies somewhere where we can't get to it - wonderful!!

Im laughing but mrs is demented lol
Oooo and you too lottie xxx, i've been cleaning all morning (had to, my mum coming this afternoon, and place was a tip) And ive had enough now.

Sorry schiehallion for the thread hijack, all joking aside, hope you get your stench sorted, and have a merry christmas yourself :-)
Oh yes, Happy Christmas to everyone - I suggest you provide your guests with clothes pegs for their noses schiehallion!!

ok cheers everyone and all the best ill try and get my head around how lotties dead rat is dying again lol
sorry to hijack your thread for seasonal purposes, schiehallion, especially as I can't think of any answer to your problem. My own suspiciions would fall on the electrics, as they're still there and the original fridge isn't, but that doesn't really match the evidence.
Well that was my original reply jno, but schiehallion hasn't confirmed that the smell is 'fishy'? If it does smell like old fish t hen I too would say the fault is with the electric socket/wiring. (Unless there is a dead rat under the floor!!)
Question Author
deffo no fishy smell nor the ozone smell produced during arcing i know the fishy smell you mean it occours most often when you put a overrated lightbulb in a socket designed for a lower wattage bulb the socket overheats and smells
Do let us know what happens schiehallion. A real mystery!
A completely wild thought - sniff the tops of all the wine bottles - corked wine smells vile.

Keep us up to date!

no joy im afraid, but hey at least i got a drink
There is another possibility. If your underwear is not up to date it could be that. Remember that you have to squat to look in the fridge. This would also explain how it could transfer between fridges.
Question Author
fridge is ontop of freezer plus i go commando
I've only scanned the previous responses, but I haven't seen an answer suggesting you check the tray underneath the fridge. If yours is a self-defrost model, (at least here in the U.S.) there's a drain from the freezer to a shallow holding tray 'neath the fridge. Most people forget about them, if they were ever made aware. The stuff that coagulates there would stop a freight train. If it overflowed onto the floor, there's a possibility that, as you postioned the new one, the heat from the compressor could have re-energized the previous overlfow's stench.

There's a drain hole from the fridge part as well, that drains condensation into the same receptecale... make sure it's kept clean as well.

Best of luck!
Is it a self defrosting fridge? If so try cleaning the hole where the water goes with a small bottle brush, the type you would use for cleaning the teapot spout.

the fridge is less than a week old so no problem with the drainage or the drain overflow. we checked all that with the old fridge we have even just tried sealing the drain hole on the new fridge to see if the odour is being drawn up into the fridge via the drain hole but the smell just reoccours
