How do ipods actually work?

As a storage device, I dont get how an ipod actually plays music? Any help?

We could start at the quantum physics level, and build up.
But if you're happy of how the music is physically stored in the flash drives or hard drives, then there's no point doing that.
The music is stored under a certain algorithm, such as the one mp3 files use.
The device then just coverts the binary files to music, the same as your telephone does (just at a higher quality).
If you can be more specific at what point you want to learn about, I can add more detail.
