I have bought a used Ford KA. It only has one key unfortunately. I have rung the Ford dealers and they say without me having 2 keys they cannot supply a spare. They say the alternative is to book it in for half a day, and they will decode the ignition, then get another key and then reprogramme the car [or something like this]. The cost would be about 130.
does anyone have any advice as to how to get one a little cheaper please?

Theres no alternative with cars now due to higher security systems, only way is through the dealers.

You can get a spare key cheap on ebay but it won't work.
I have a Ford van and only had one key so I took it to a auto locksmiths and he cut me two new keys and coded them in about half an hour and he was bloody cheap....

Thanks for your help. I'll see if i can find an auto locksmith, certainly dont fancy the 130. Would rather do without, I'll just be very careful where I put my key, and wont unlock near a drain!
Thanks again.
get a large torch and fasten a magnet to a stick or length of bar. Go back to aforementioned drain when its dark and shine torch down drain if key is down there you should be able to see it feed down magnet through grill and carefully remove.I did this and it worked for me .

Thanks jigman, I haven't actually dropped a key down the drain. I just meant I'd better be careful not to when I only have one key.
