How do I remove an unwanted and nuisance screen saver?

Are you on Windows
Search for file type .scr in C:\
identify it
delete it.

if ya using windows, then Right click the mouse anywhere on the Desktop > Properties > Screen Saver (tab) > select your choice of screen saver or select non. > ok

The above will just de-activate the screen saver not remove it as was requested
You need to delete the what_ever_it_is_called.scr file as I said.

Well you are both right to an extent. Before deleting it per SL's instructions, you should de-activate it per WB's.

BUT, some screen savers come with excess baggage, so before doing that, you should check to see if there is an uninstall option in Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, and if there is, uninstall it.

If it's not a screen saver you installed, you may want to check your PC for viruses.
