what is the difference between a pikelet and a crumpet i guarantee they are not the same?

It looks like a pikelet is just thinner !

Where I come from, pikelets usually have currants in them as well which crumpets don't

I've been slowly moving west then south over the last 30+ years and the only difference as far as I can make out is where you buy them.

Around here (Essex), pikelets are about half as thick as crumpets, but otherwise look and taste the same.

pikelets are made from the same mix as crumpets but are usually irregularly shaped, larger in diameter and about a third of the thickness of crumpets.
