home wireless network problem

I have set up a home wireless network linking my laptop running Vista to BT Home Hub and PC running XP Ihave a Public folder on Vista and a Shared Documents folder on PC.
The network works from PC to Laptop-but not in the other direction!
Can someone help please-step by step instructions-I'm 75 and my brain hurts!

hello Chuck--I've amassed a quantity of papers relating to this subject! One says that Vista requires a user name & password for file sharing-XP allows access by default-could this be the problem?

hello Chuck for the final time--your question led me to look at the Firewall exceptions on XP-file sharing was not an exception-now it is-and weeks of head-scratching are at an end! Many thanks

Probably not, if it wanted a password it would ask for one.

on the PC do the following..

Click start and then run and type in cmd and press enter. then in the black window that pops up type ipconfig and hit enter. make a note of the numbers that appear next to IP address. it will be something like 192.168.0.3 (which I will use as an example.. replace with what yours actually says below)

Then on the laptop click on start and then computer, this will bring up the computer window which shows your drives... in the address bar that currently says computer type the following (remember replace the numbers with the ones you made a note of)

\\192.168.0.3

and hit enter.

What happens?

if it comes up with the shared folder on the PC then using the right mouse button drag the folder onto the desktop and select create shortcut here, this will put a shortcut to the shared folder on your desktop that you can use to access it in future.
