knitting question

Anyone out their who is an experiences knitter ?
This may sound a sill question, but would it use less wool to knit a plain aran weight jumper, than a patterned one ?
I have 800grms of wool left over from a patterned jumper that took 1200grms, and would like to use it up. I wondered if the various cables and other stitches used more wool.

I would think a knit using say stocking stitch would definitely use less wool than say cable, but not to the extent you need ! If you can't get hold of the more of the same shade of wool to make up the jumper using aran stitches etc, why not introduce another complementary colour of the same weight instead, to make up the difference. As you are now familiar with the pattern, you could incorporate some colour bands either vertically or horizontally (the latter would probably be easier). You should make up the back and the front at the same time (obviously you would need two pairs of the requisite needles), so you don't run out of your major colour before you have finished one part.

I didnt think of that - it's a great idea !! The colour is natural, so maybe a nice palish brown would do. Perhaps the rib,cuffs and neck would look nice in the different colour. Thank you so much suggestion. Look out wool shops here I come!!

cable patterns do use more wool. However those patterns with holes in them don't. Depends on the pattern. You could try doing a sleeveless top, just an idea!
I would make sure before starting!
You could add a colour on the rib part of sleeves and back/front. Cable does use more but I don't think its that much more. Not 400grams.
