how to get rid of soap powder smell

how can I get rid of the smell of soap powder from a plastic container so that I can use it to put food in ,I have tried bicarbonate of soda and bleach but the smell is still there .it seems such a waste of a box if I have to buy a new one thanks in advance for any suggestions

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I have no idea if this will work, but handling a stainless steel teaspoon is supposed to removed the smell of garlic from your hands so maybe putting stainless steel teapoons in the box will absorb the smell of the washing powder?
Also, what about just putting some halves lemons in there, i am sure I remember reading that they absorb the smell of fish so that might work too?

Half an onion may work - that is one way to banish smoker's stink. However, the industrial perfumes used in soap powders and lots of other applications are extremely persistent (and, frankly, rather sickening sometimes) so the only way may be to leave the open box (and lid also) in the sun for a while. This may lead to 'evaporation' of the odour.
thanks for your suggestions I have tried all your ideas but nothing seems to have worked ,its such a strong smell that I think I'll use it for something else and just buy another one after all I don't want my sausage rolls to taste of persil, not that they'll last that long in my house. merry Christmas everyone
