Everyone in my family is musical, except, it seems me. Is this something you have in your genes, or is it learned?

All my family could either play an instrument or good singing voices except me, or so I thought. Then I realised that because I was the youngest I wasn't encouraged as much as my elder sister & brother were by my parents. I had the same music lessons as them but was always last to get in my practice & then it was bedtime or I was too tired. Please try now, I took up the keyboards when I was about fifty & taught myself to play the kind of music that I liked & though I will never play the Albert Hall I am able to amuse myself & have even played in public ( just for the old folk etc) but it really gives you a sense of achievment & music is music whatever your age. I am post seventy now but still play swing, boogiewoogie , jazz as well as easy classics & am learning all the time. There are lots of easyplay books to buy & you can teach yourself & you will find that once you have picked up a few basic chords ,you will play & enjoy it. Remember to learn for your own sake & not to impress your family but they will be proud of you & probably love it if you ask for their help , most musicians like to be teachers. Good luck, go on "give it a go". Spinner.
