Is Britain ready for a gay footballer?
25 Answers
I just read this article by ex-footballer Graham Le Saux;
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/footbal l/premier_league/article2419068.ece
It's all about how people thought he was gay during his career (he wasn't) and how it nearly drove him out of the game.
What would be the reaction to an openly gay footballer now?

Imagine how excellent that would be for gay teenagers who don't necessarily seenGraham Norton or Alan Carr as role models.
But it ain't going to happen for a very, very, very long time.
Obviously, there are gay premiership players. But we're talking about footie, not ITV Light Entertainment.
I personally know two premiership footballers who are in the closet, and I appreciate the pressure their under to be 'part of the gang'.
