I have windows xp on my leased works computer, the company say i have a software problem and refuse to fix it. It takes 6 to 8 goes to get it to start and then repeatedly crashes, it will then run ok until it is turned off and then the whole sorry farce starts again. i cannot download any patches from the windows site. How easy or difficult is it to reinstall windows. Is it worth buying something other than XP, which is installed now.
I'm not very technical so easy answers please.
thank you

You need to restore the operating system to its factory pre-loaded state. Your computer will then be as a good as new.

This is easy.

If you have any files on the computer that you want to keep, put them on a CD or memory stick.

Some computers have a recovery CD, others have a recovery section on the hard drive.

If it's a CD, you put the CD in, restart the computer, and follow the instructions. If its on the hard drive then you use a certain key combination during startup. If you tell us which computer you have, we will be able to tell you.

It's a fujitsu siemans pc. now looking for the cd.
Thanx
There are some instructions here. They might be the same or similar for your computer:

As you say it is a leased works machine, so its possible that you may not have administrtaor rights in order to restore your opertaing system. Be careful not to delete anything until you know if you have full admin rights over your PC.

With the help of fujitsu siemens over the phone, I put the machine back to factory settings and then went through a whole ball ache of a day, reinstaling everything and guess what. It still crashes but not quite as often. I have previously run their hardware diagnostic disk but it couldn't find anything.
I need the damn thing to stop crashing.
Any ideas?
