AGA cookers

I am trying to convince a friend of mine that a renovation project he is considering would benefit greatly from the addition of an AGA for heating/cooking etc. As I have not had an AGA could anyone tell me if they have any drawbacks or failings such as cost of running etc. There is no mains gas at the property and needs either oil or gas storing. Thanks for any assistance and advice.

Theres always a smart a***. As it happens other friends of mine have them and they rave about them. But why am I explaining myself to a muppet! All I asked was a simple question and this is Answerbank after all.

Hi eastern.I am housesitting at the moment in a house with an Aga.I love it...if I could afford one I would snap one up! The kitchen here also has a regular oven. You need this if you need to cook something at a very accurate temperature ie cakes. On Christmas Day we did a rib of beef in the slow oven for 6 hours.I can honestly say it was the best beef I've ever eaten.The kitchen is so cosy even when it's been freezing. Also I've dried all our clothes on it. I've been told they are quite efficient cost wise but I don't know for sure. Anyway it's now my dream lottery-win buy...if that ever happens!

I have a 2 oven AGA and my gas bill was �200pcm when it was on. Its �29pcm now its off.

Aga for heating & cooking is a bane in summer when you need hot water but the kitchen is unbearable.

Personally I find Zacsmaster's answers generally very sensible and not a muppet at all. Maybe the question this time around was just dim.

yes I agree with RoaldoM the question was very badly put together why would we want to know about you trying to convince a friend and I didn't see any stars or acknowledgement for a very good post by terambulan.

to all the people who answered in the spirit of the web site thank you. To all the rest especially no.knowledge (very appropriate) you really should get out more often! This web site isnt for petty "richard craniums" All I asked was a question, poorly worded it may have been. It says a lot about someone who spends all their time trolling the net but has nothing constructive to say! You really are sados.

We had one,(solid fuel) years ago and it had two temperatures---boiling or out

Though things have progressed there remain two drawbacks.1) Controllability for baking cakes etc
2.) kitchen temperature in the summer

If you have a seperate oven as well as water heating system they are great, particularly for slow cooking and cosiness

Oh I do assure that we do get out quite a bit - how else would be able to interpret those complex expressions that you use like 'Muppet' and 'Richard's Cranium'.
Its just that answering questions in Home & Garden is such a dry old subject that we have to get our laughs in somehow.
