Ford Mondeo Problem

Can someone tell me why sometimes when I turn my ignition on I lose all the digits on the dashboard on the on board computer such as mileage tip mileage mpg etc and I have to turn ignition off and re try up to 5 or 6 times.
The car does drive with it like this but the speedo does not increase.

you could have a faulty earth connection on your battery.
