Abode Flash Player

I have tried to download the free version of Abode Flash Player on several occasions. Each time it tells me downloading is completed, yet I cannot access it.
When I go onto a site that needs a flash player, it invites me to download Abode, which suggests that it has not actually downloaded in the first place.
Are there any other flash players that I could download.
My laptop is the Acer Aspire 5315 which is not an expensive one.

I tried to download from the filehippo site but the same happened as on previous occasions. A pop-up screen said that all files had downloaded. I turned off my laptop as suggested, but when I turned it back on again, the download wasn't there. Very puzzling

Depending on how desperate you are, I could email you the file (1.77 MB for the ActiveX/Internet explorer version). Don't post your email address here unless you have a "disposable" one that you don't mind getting spammed up by webcrawlers, just respond and I'll arrange something.
P.S. Anyone who charged �6 for an access code is probably up to no good - I'd recommend you do a full virus and spyware scan.

Thanks LeMarchand for your kind offer, but I am not desperately in need of Abode Flash Player, I just thought it would be handy to have.
Regarding the �6 rip-off, it was actually from the filehippo site. The first time I tried to download, I didn't get it, but the second time I tried this request for a text to access the code, came up. At the time there was no mention of the charge and it was only when their text came back was I aware of it.

Weird! I've just been to File Hippo and downloaded it with no problems, and I've never had to pay for anything from there. I do wonder if you have a nasty on your machine.
The thing with not having Flash Player (as you have found) is that you can't get full usage out of a lot of sites, so it is worth getting (and should be completely free!).

LeMarchand. Thanks for your continuing interest in my problem. I have just completed a full scan of my laptop and there was nothing of any consequence wrong, just one minor cookie problem, which has now been fixed.
Do you know of any other flash player that I might have better success at downloading.

i had similar problem before when i changed to vista
but you should be able to get it from file hippo for free

Not used it, and it looks as if it only works with Firefox, but GNASH http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash/ is a free Flash alternative. Apparently it doesn't play too well with newer Flash files, so you may not get much use out of it.

If it's just a question of playing downloaded Flash files, Real Player (yuck), GOM Player, VLC and The KMPlayer (my favourite, mainly on aesthetics) all play .flv files.

I have a Vista Desktop and an XP laptop, but would have no problems with a Vista laptop - I've only found one bit of software that I use that I couldn't get to run on Vista - I had to PAY for an alternative(!). The problem is that you need a much higher spec machine to run Vista well, which is really to be expected...
Anyway, it may be that Vista's security features are preventing the installation. Is your account an "Administrator" account? If not, try installing from an Administrator account. I'll have to look when I'm at home, but I think you can also right-click and "run as administrator" on the Flash download. Watch for any pop-up messages that may appear and make a note of them - it may also be that your firewall or antivirus is stopping things. I have Comodo Firewall, and it is very strict about what you can install if you set the security settings to a high level.

I tried what you suggested but clicking the right button did not give me Administrator Account choices, so I decided to try to download it again. This time I got a box with on the top bar 'Microsoft visual++runtime library

Although it's probably nothing too serious, it's beginning to sound like one of those puzzles that it's infinitely better to look at directly. (Unless anyone else has any further suggestions).
I've found that when helping out distant friends/family it's often much quicker for me to get them to install a program called Crossloop that allows me to "dial in" to their computer than getting them to keep trying different things, as it can sometimes take a long time to diagnose a problem without a "hands on" look.
You may find it's better to either live without Flash (or try a couple of months down the line, when there will be a different version available) or bite the bullet and pay someone to look at the machine. I have heard some horror stories, so make sure you have backed up any documents first!
