In previous years pensioners got 250 winter payment. now the Government is proposing that they get 25 per week if the average temperature across the whole week is below freezing. You woul only need one walmer day and the average would go above!

If there are two pensioners (married couple) both with earned pensions in their own right, the 250 is split 125 to each. I wonder what happens when one of the pair becomes 80 years of age, and the other is younger?
In previous years the Winter Fuel Payment was 200. This year is the first time it has been increased to 250. However, if there are two pensioners (married couple), each with a government retirement pension earned in their own right, this is split 125 to each. I wonder what happens when one of the pair reaches 80 years of age, and the other is younger, as it's supposed to be 400 for pensioners of 80 and over. It would be interesting to know.
