Car advice please!! ok - here's the situation. We own a Y reg Fiat Punto 1.2, 36000 miles. Want to get a more powerful and reliable car, but dont particularly want to pay more than what the Punto is worth for it, and preferably would like to get some money back on it to pay off some debts. Is it worthwhile going for an older car, such as a P reg Golf/ pug 306 which will be more reliable, or sticking with the Punto and having a newer car??

You're not going to get something bigger and better for the same money.

ansteyg - thanks for your comments. Punto unreliable cos in short time of having it, we've already had suspension probs, leaking foot well, exhaust replacement, wipers and so on. Dont get me wrong, the car goes ok, we have basically just gone off it. It doesnt have the same appeal it once had before! engine not big enough either. I think 2200 is what we reckon we'd get for it too. thanks for your advise

I think you would be going down the right track by getting an older larger car, such as a 306 or the like. Make sure you take a mechanic with you when purchasing though. Try and go for a TD fo r economy, but they are more expensive if they go wrong. I just bought a 306 TD from the auction for 300 - i've done 8,000 miles in 5 weeks and only spent 7 on a gear linkage rod - a lot of luck is involved too I think - Good luck to you and make sure you get rid of that nasty Punto!
