70s Information Ad?

There used to a glut of public information ads in the 70s but one in particular has been bugging me. There's a man trying to help a lorry reverse, trying to speak French. It turns out at the end of the ad the lorry driver is English. What was this all about?

I think it was to the tune of 'if you can't see where you're reversing, get somone to guide you in' - did that warrant an advert though !
