We've just had a visit from Polish Jehovah's Witnesses, and yes they were speaking Polish ! They were very polite and went away when told we were not interested, but my wife is now trying to figure out who told them there was a Polish speaker here.

Are you in England or in Poland?

I'm fairly sure I'm in England ... where did that atlas go ?

Yes, England it is :-)

My wife did phone a friend who had let the JW's in once (and spent a morning trying to oust them again) to see if she had been visited as well. Friend's first question - "Did they look like normal people ?" !
LOL, yes i know what she meant, JW do look like normal people, It's the Mormons who look like they are city business men lol
If you have a local corner shop maybe they asked in there if there were any Polish people in the surrounding area, and maybe the person in the shop knew your wife as a customer. It is amazing what people know about other people without you knowing they know. I recently moved and when i went into the deli in my old village last week the owner asked me how i liked living in my new village!!! i havn't been in that deli in years actually!!!
Are JW like hardcore Christians maybe?
I'm a Christian but I think JW are like an adaption of them maybe?
One of my exes her mother was visited reguarly by JWs one of whom was a convert who spoke Cantonese.
I think they report on their previous visits, they may have knocked and your wife answered and told them she was Polish and if at first you don't succeed....
Very wry observation about the Mormons, LOL
I always invite them to go forth and multiply. usually works!
Years ago, I had 2 amusing experiences with JWs.
When I was 17, still living at home, door-bell rang, my Mum answered the door, returned to the kitchen, and told me that the people at the door wished to see me. The look on their faces was incredible, as my Mum had said to them, "Just a minute, I'll call my husband!" She was 54 at the time!!!

Another time, 2 JWs knocked at the door:
Them...."Good morning, what do you think is the greatest problem in the world now?"
Me..."Er, who do you represent?"
Them..."We are Jehovas Witnesses"
Me..."You have just answered your own question, goodbye."

LOL mightymouse ... short of putting the JW's on the phone to one of those persistent people who call to sell things to you, I can't think of better ways to deal with them !

The boss lady thinks she has figured it out. A few lneighbours who are Polish were not visited and my wife used to work with someone local who is a JW and who knows of her Polish background, so a bit of information sharing probably went on there.
I love door to door evangelism. I invite the JW in, they are always lovely people, much nicer to meet on a dark night than much of the population of UK. We talk about and around Christianity, me from my conservative NIV/Phillips angle, they from theirs. We always get into a bit of a wrangle about John 1:1 and stakes vs crosses (as if it even matters), but we always part on very good terms. They are lovely people.
I always say, 'Sorry i didn't see the crime' and shut the door!
