There isn't much between them when it come to processing power. The 360 has been around longer so has more games, PS3 has a blue-ray player built in.
I have a 360 so may be biased but I have tried a PS3 but just couldn't get excited about it. I did own a playstaion some years ago so i could play formula 1 racing. This was my only reason fro owning one. F1 is coming to the 360 later this year so even that reason has gone.

Well their are loads of those available on the 360. Halo, Call of Duty, Loads of driving games of various types and of course many others. The PS3 has its own of course but the 360 currently has a lot more that can be bought at discount prices.
One thing to consider. If he wants to play on-line with others then it will cost on the n360 were as the playstation is free. However there are people who say the 360 live service is more reliable.
As i previously said i am biased but think i would still go for the 360.

The 360 is the better gaming machine , whilst the PS3 has the Blu-Ray player, the Internet browser and is more of an entertainment system.
I would recommend the 360 if he wants to play games, it's cheaper and has a better selection. You may have to pay 40 a year to play online, but it's so much better. Voice chat is included and the quality of the online gaming is better.
I have both machines and always play online with the 360, I've never played the PS3 online.
