Overweight people on aeroplanes

Another question relating to my brother in law.  Does anyone know the regulations relating to really large peoiple on planes.  He is 26 stone light. We called Easyjet and they said there was no problem on their part with him travelling as long as he could comfortably fit into the 17 inch wide seats!!  Surley big people travel by air although I must admit i have not seen many!!

on some american airlines if the people at the check-in desk think you are too big you have to buy another seat (some how I can't imagine them giving you 2 meals and 2 drinks as well.....) on easyjet flights if they're not busy surely he could just have 2 seats with the arm rest up anyway.

Also, tell  him that if he is uncomfortable with the lap strap being to tight, he can request an extender from his flight attendant (air hostess in UK).  They won't seat him in an emergency exit, however...

If he pays for just one seat, then he has to be able to fit with both armrests down, as it is a requirement for take off.  If he can't fit, then he has to buy a second ticket so he can sit on both seats. 

Of course if the plane is not full then I'm sure they'd let him sit across two without paying for the extra seat: but you don't necessarily know if this will be the case when booking.

I hear some american airlines are increasing the width of their seats as people are in general getting bigger.  Definitely a good idea: more comfortable for the bigger among us and more room for the rest of us!
