Job seekers allowance
9 Answers
My hubby is being made redundant and was wondering how job seekers allowance works, as I am sure we will not get any other benefits, other than a slight increase in working tax credit.
Is he likely to get the payment of 62.50, and does he get anything else for the children, we have 2?
Thanks

As Sara3 indicates, your husband will probably be entitled to Contribution-Based JSA, which is not 'means tested' However it's important to note that it only lasts for 6 months. Thereafter some people are transferred to the means-tested Income-Based JSA but your working hours will exclude your husband from this.

There's no provision, under the JSA system, for making additional payments because the claimant has children but, as Sara also suggests, you can probably get more through your tax credits.
