How Safe is my drinking water in London. I understand the cleaning process and the chemicals used, but how clean is it when it arrives at my tap? I mean, what happens if it is contaminated in the reservoirs or water mains?

It's cleaner than any of the stuff you buy in bottles. And it hasn't been dragged halfway across Europe in a truck.
The water companies have very stringent checking procedures to ensure that quality is high.
I read an article some months back that said the water co.s (not just London) are concerned about traces of medicinal drugs, cancer, birth, veterinary etc which their filtration systems can`t remove. I`d still drink mains rather than bottled though.
Have you got a link to that Brooksy?
Hi,
I live in London NW2 and twice a year a Thames Water engineer calls and takes samples of water indoors. Does a sample test on the spot and takes additional back to the laboratory, for, presumably more detailed testing.
The last visit in November 2008 was a 98.99% purity reading on the spot. Later confirmed in writing.
The last 6 years test results have all been virtually the same.
So credit where credit is due.
Pity some of the other service companies cannot even approach the standards of Thames Water.

Hope this answers your concerns.

Gelda, I haven`t a link, but I probably read the article in the Daily Telegraph. You could try searching their website.
