When you've been married for over 20 years and you go out for dinner, what do you talk about?

I would hope we would be talking about what we would get up to once we got home LOL Always good for a laugh
The undercooked cauliflower and the draft coming in from the entrance lol

Romance is not dead lol...
Are you male or female?
GoldHoop is female, this is the one that suspects hubby is having an affair. Have you spoken to him, Goldhoop? x
Our next holiday or weekend away, funny things we've seen or done over the week, the menu, the wine, remember that time we........, all sorts of things really.

Yes we have spoken. The named person was a female friend who he confided in/discussed our relationship problems with; the unnamed texter was an SMS chat thing. We had problems which we were both aware of and responsible for but ignored.
He has said he has stopped the friendship and the texting and we are trying to make this work.
Because we have pretty much led separate lives over the past few years apart from building up trust again we need to think about things to talk about rather than the weather! We have a long way to go .....
Thanks for any suggestions! I have already decided that the next time we go out we should treat it as a first date!
If I have suggestion on your 'first date' don't go out for a meal. You'll both be acting a part sitting in front of each other and trying your hardest for everything to be what it isn't (just like a first date!)
I suggest an outing where you visit something both of you are interested in or a nice long walk so long as it's something with plenty going on around you, and why not end it with a couple of drinks.
Most importantly, dress to please (not over the top) and hope he does likewise; this is one of the problems in couples as they get older they slip into comfort clothes and you're a middle-aged couple before you know it! Good luck to you both!
For after the date and preparation for future'dates', can you take up a hobby either as a couple or separately? That would be good grounds for conversation.

Glad you talked about it and it wasn't as bad as an affair xx
Well,we have been married for 60 years (last December) and still find things to talk about.
More importantly we still make each other laugh.
However,I can't tell you what we talk about,we just talk! LOL
that's lovely, Mr V.. warms my heart x
Mr V you are so right and to GoldHoop hold onto what you have and enjoy, every relaionship has a blip or two and we never know how longwe have together.

Mamya x
Well she is a first class cook and inevitably we find that we get inferior food at inflated prices. I do what I am told and NEVER do something that she hasn't suggested BUT:

Goldhoop, even if he is having an affair, what is the big deal. Firstly statistics tell us that it is almost certainly going to "fizzle" out and having a "mistress" is accepted in France, Greece and many other countries. He is only looking for excitement and sex, which may be missing in your marriage.
Keep "stum" or get a lover yourself if you think that it will help.
