Self hypnosis depends on the state of mind. If you are after a method of relaxation though give this a try. Find a quiet dark room (preferably with a bed) and relax, first of all tense the muscles in you toes then relax and then your feet tensing then as hard as you can then follow this pattern as you go up the body. When you reach the neck go down the arms. the repeat this pattern going backwards down the body but this time visualise your favourite warm colour in your mind and feel yourself sinking into it. Hope this works and if it doesn't try coming to the convention and we'll get TW to invite Paul McKenna.
Hypnosis is often described as a state of deep relaxation but this is not strictly true as you can ben hypontized without being relaxed - however, hypnotherapy is normally performed in a quiet, calming place like any kind of therapy. Hypnosis is being a state of trance. It is not nearly as mumbojumbo as it sounds - we are in various forms of trance for most of the day: just before we get up in the morning, sleep, when concentrating etc. The beauty of hypnotherapy is that it works just like normal therapy but using the trance state as a sort of 'tool' to get you to deal with things on a more subconscious level.
