Evoking memories

Does anyone else find that smells and music evoke precious memories ie the gas works remind me of a school I once attended (being situated nearby) music esp pop songs remind me of a long-gone youth (my youth that is not a chappie) and make me feel 16 again.  Is this the same with everyone??(not the smell of gas works obviously)

yeah its funny how certain smells bring back long forgotton memories or places and songs too that have some weird connection to a distant memory.

Oh yes Nettie. Lots of different smells, and lots of different music.

Sony and Cher 'I got you Babe' remind me of my very first serious boyfriend and his Morris Minor!  Must have been 1963/64.    The smell of 'Madame Rochas' brings my late teens/early twenties back with a vengeance.  Really good memories!

ooh I remember Madame Rochas - could we really afford it in those days? We must be roughly the same age. I also remember wearing Rimmel's Muget de Bois - (still can't spell it.) in my poorer days

absolutely, smells are a great key to the past...some music too, but that has a less instant, uncontrollable effect

yep, i hate it when a smell reminds you of something but you can't remember what. There used to be this song that brought back such bad memories that i couldn't listen to it for years.

Weird - I was only thinking about this this morning as I had fresh raspberries for breakfast - they always take me right back to my childhood and remind me of my grandmother.  Also homemade lemon tart - she made the best pastry.  I wish she was still with us to show me how, because I'm hopeless at it!
