How to record freeview when its built into tv.
13 Answers
I Have a tv with freeview built in, i connected up my dvd recorder and i don't know how to record freeview with it. I have tuned it in to pick up the analogue signal channels 1 - 5...............normally i would connect up the freeview box via a scart lead and record that av channel but cos its built in i am stuck.
Any ideas to fix this problem.

Either that or (this might work better!) do as above, but only set the recorder to AV (might be AV1 or Av2 - depends on your machine), then whatever channel your tv is on, your recorder will pick up that signal and record it.

MrBounty so the way you suggested would mean that i would have to record what i watch........is that right?
Whereas if i had a seperate freeview box i could watch one and record the other, so by having it built in hasn't helped.
I don't know if the make of tv matters but its an LG one and to change what you are watching you can toggle between TV/DTV/AV1/AV2/AV3 etc
Scaniavabis The dvd recorder worked when i had it connected downstairs to the sky box, so i presume it can record digital.
Incidentally i am not at home so cannot try out suggestions yet.
Thanks for trying........

Hi Cockney_si
I have read your posts, and i am not convinced i will be able to record freeview with it being built in to the tv itself. I need to select AV1 to use the dvd recorder, by selecting av1 i am therefore diabling DTV which is the freeview.
Does that make sense?
As on the LG tv remote you have an input button and you can select what you want from DTV TV AV1 AV2 RGB Component HDMi etc etc
The only way it might work would be to switch the dvd on, and select av1 on the tv so as to view the dvd recorder menu , record the av1 channel, then switch the tv back to DTV
Thanks for your suggestions.

This can be complicated but you need to keep the TV on its normal freeview receiving mode and select whichever channel you wish to record.
I'm assuming that your tv has two scart sockets...Sometimes on the back of tv's they have a scart socket which is marked 'input' and the other one is one that will work both ways.
With one scart lead connected to the back of the tv and then into one of the the dvd recorder's scart sockets, I'm assuming there is two on the recorder so best to start with one marked AV1 on the recorder first of all.
Select AV1 on the dvd recorder the input channel to record from and then record for a little while.
You will then need to switch scart lead to the input on the back of the TV and on the back of the recorder to play back through the tv what you have recorded.
If the the comes up nothing on the screen then try the above with scart in AV2 on the recorder and selecting AV2 on the recorder to record from.
Play it back and you should get something.
If this still doesn't try the above with the other scart socket on the tv.

Actually reading it back..........
What is the input channel i wish to record from on the dvd recorder...............you see my choices are channels 1 -15 P1 P2 or Line? The freeview on the tv is none of these. As it is independant to AV1 AV2 Line etc.
If i chose channel one it will record BBC1 4 will be Ch 4 how do i select the Freeview?
I am not trying to be awkward here Cockney_si as i appreciate any help i can get.........I am just trying to get my head round it, as i don't think it can be recorded.

Put the tv into freeview mode so what you are watching is the freeview channels, you shouldn;t need to touch anything else on the tv now.
Go to the DVD recorder and use the channel up and down buttons, I'm guessing there should be some channel numbers and then the channels below one are AV1 and two and line in or maybe they are the P1 or P2 or line in channels, if this is the case follow my guide for the P1 or P2 instead of AV1 or AV2.
Hopefully this will help.
Main thing to remember though is whatever you have of the the screen will most probably be recorded so if you have one of the AV channels on the tv then you will get nothing on the recorder.
