If it states on my motor insurance policy that I can drive other cars with owners consent can I drive a car that is not insured at all or does the car have to be insured by its owner for them. eg we just bought a new car and still have our old one my husband is the registered keeper but he has transferred his insurance to the new one so is not allowed to drive the old one. I have my own insurance for my car which states I can drive others that I don;t own but wondered if I could still drive the old one if I need to. TIA
It has to be legal in its own right - taxed and insured. The car will be flagged up on the database as uninsured.
That is because while you are technically insured to drive it, the car itself is not insured to be on the road. As soon as you park it on the public highway it has no insurance whatsoever - you are not driving it.
It is worth phoning your insurance company though, but realistically lots of couples would be driving two cars on one insurance policy if it were legal.
