if when paying a deposit online for a holiday onreceipt of comfirmation the details are wrong and no satisfactory answer from holiday co can i cancel and reclaim my deposit

Ron, have you actually answered your own question? ie if the firm aren't answering your calls, they are probably carpet-baggers and have bagged your money. Did you check out their reliabiity before parting with money? You could try involving your local trading standards team, but the guiding principle with all buying is 'caveat emptor' ie 'buyer beware' - not everyone is honest, especially not online.
If you booked the holiday on-line the holiday details would have been input by you - any errors would be yours.
Wolf, he seems to be saying he paid the deposit, which may not be the same as inputting the details.
What details are wrong Ron?
