What is the meaning of "There's gratitude" in the following conversation?

"Where is Father Knowles?"
"It's Saturday. He's not due in until later."
"There's gratitude. He assured us he would be here."

"There's gratitude" or "that's gratitude for you" would be used sarcastically to indicate that the speaker thinks someone's behaviour is rude, discourteous or more specifically ungrateful.

It would be used in particular when you have helped someone in some way and have now asked them to help you in return - and they don't help you.
