setting up a 2nd computer...?

can anyone offer any advice please?
i am on aol, have a laptop and a wireless router.
i am wondering if my dads laptop can be set up to share my router to enable him to get online...?
unfortunately he cannot share my aol account as only one person can be signed in at one time (i think)
but, if he can get online through my router he will be able to use internet explorer to surf and pick up his hotmail emails (is this right?)
is it as simple as letting my dad know my router security password or is it more involved?
and if we were to share the router and be online at the same time would we experience slowness accessing sites etc...?
